Luis Buñuel, 1972, 101 min
In French with English Subtitles
Luis Buñuel’s wittiest film, The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie centers on six friends from the French middle class attempting to gather for dinner. But when the friends (Stéphane Audran, Jean-Pierre Cassel, Paul Frankeur, Bulle Ogier, Fernando Rey, and Delphine Seyrig) learn they are mistaken about the date, the surreal fantasy repeatedly shows the bourgeois group meeting for a dinner that never quite arrives.
The film was restored in 2022 by the L'Image Retrouvée laboratory using elements stored in the French Film Archives.
